The West Branch of the Little Conestoga is a stocked trout stream not generally thought capable of supporting a trout population year-round. But when some local children caught a large "holdover" brown trout, the owner of the adjacent property realized that it could be a higher-quality stream.
Through the PA Fish & Boat Commission's "Adopt a Stream" grants were obtained to do bank reconstruction and place habitat structures along the stream.
Within a year, the structures were found to be doing their work as designed, the stream had narrowed and deepened and trout were repopulating this section of the stream.
That the trout appreciate the improvements is evidenced by the more recent catch in the last photograph.
