The Conowingo Creek is a major tributary to the Susquehanna River and therefore to the Chesapeake Bay.
In 2007 DTU collaborated with Rettew Associates in a survey of the entire watershed, marking degraded sites and evaluating them for restoration work. In all 128 sites were found to be in need of attention. Here's a summary of that study.
In 2009 the first 5 projects in the headwaters of the stream were begun.
For 2010 we selected another 8 sites of interest to evaluate and prioritize. Six of those sites were completed that year.
Several more sites are being evaluated in 2011, with design work complete, permitting underway and work scheduled for 2012.
While it will take years to complete the work, DTU, along with many partners and cooperative landowners has begun.
